A Journey of Inquiry and Innovation
The MYP Personal Project is a student-centered inquiry that empowers students to explore their passions and interests. Through a cyclical process of inquiry, action, and reflection, students delve into a topic of personal significance. This project not only allows students to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills but also provides an opportunity to consolidate their learning across various subject areas. By engaging in a self-directed exploration, students develop essential skills such as time management, research, and critical thinking, preparing them for the challenges of the IB Diploma Programme.
This year, our Year 10 students embarked on a transformative learning journey through their Personal Projects. With a diverse range of 36 students, the projects reflected a wide spectrum of interests, from the arts and music to social issues and business endeavors.
A Tapestry of Passions
Students delved into topics that ignited their passions, such as:
- Creative Arts: Painting, drawing, and music composition
- Sports: Analyzing sports performance and developing training programs
- Fashion Design: Creating unique clothing lines
- Social Impact: Empowering women and youth, addressing mental health issues
- Business and Entrepreneurship: Developing business plans to support animal welfare and healthcare initiatives
The Power of Inquiry
Over six to seven months, students followed the inquiry cycle, meticulously planning, researching, and applying their skills. They faced challenges, sought solutions, and refined their work through reflection and iteration. From the reflection of Siena Tedrick on her project ‘Sweet Support’ – “When I started my project, I did not know much about how to run a business or how to develop the skills to run a company, with the help of my father in the food industry and running a restaurant of his own. I was able to learn these skills throughout my project. I found it interesting to run my own business and wanted to see what it would be like. To do this, I had to learn and develop new skills to make my project successful and achieve my learning goal..”
Our students’ efforts culminated in the Personal Projects Exhibition, a vibrant showcase of creativity, innovation, and perseverance. The exhibition featured live performances by talented students like Saisha Tappoo and Emelia Wood, adding an extra layer of excitement to the event.
The Personal Project experience has equipped our Year 10 students with essential skills for their future academic and personal endeavors. By fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and self-directed learning, these projects have prepared them to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the IB Diploma Programme.
As we celebrate the achievements of our Year 10 students, we are filled with pride and admiration for their dedication and passion. Their projects have showcased their individual talents and inspired us all to pursue our dreams with unwavering determination.
Thank you to all our Year 10 students, parents, families, supervisors and ISS Community for your unwavering support towards our young inspiring leaders. Vinaka vakalevu!
