Making Waves for Shark Conservation: Mata Ni Ua’s Shark Week Highlights

Sharks took center stage during Mata Ni Ua’s unforgettable Shark Week – and what a splash it made!

Throughout the week, our community dove into a celebration of sharks, shining a light on their beauty, importance, and the urgent need for their protection. From informative sessions to interactive activities, Shark Week was packed with opportunities to learn more about these misunderstood marine predators and how we can help safeguard their future.

At the heart of the week was our fundraising event in support of the My Fiji Shark organisation — a passionate team dedicated to shark conservation in Fijian waters. Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our students, staff, and families, we were able to raise awareness and essential funds that will go directly towards protecting these apex predators and preserving the delicate balance of our ocean ecosystems.

From creative shark-themed artwork to powerful presentations and fun ocean games, the spirit of collaboration and advocacy was evident across our school. Students engaged with real-world conservation topics, learning about the threats sharks face — including overfishing and habitat loss — and how we can all take action to be part of the solution.
