December 13, 2024Library Book Donation – Vunicuicui Primary School, Labasa
In a heartwarming effort to promote literacy and share resources, our school organized a library book donation drive in Term Two. This initiative focused on donating books that were weeded out from our library to a school in need. This effort not only helps our school manage our library collection more effectively but also provides valuable reading materials to students who might not have easy access to basic and essential resources.
The process is straightforward. Our librarian, Ms. Nina identifies the books to be weeded out. These are books that we have multiple copies of, are books that are heavily used and for which we have new orders placed or ones that have not been in circulation for quite some time. Our library team then carefully sorts and packs them. These books, though no longer needed in our collection, are still in relatively good condition and have the potential to benefit others.
This donation opportunity was considered based on a need in an Indo-Fijian community-based school with limited library resources on the outskirts of Labasa Town. The receiving school, Vunicuicui Sanatan Primary School Headteacher, Mr. Suresh Chand, along with their dedicated teachers, librarian, and students, were thrilled to accept our donation. The books have already started making a difference, providing new reading opportunities for their students. This gesture not only supports their learning journey but also fosters a sense of community and shared learning.
We hope to continue this tradition of sharing and supporting other schools by donating books when appropriate as we not only manage our resources better but also contribute to the broader educational community.
