Embracing the CAS Spirit
The Diploma Programme core, comprising Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay (EE), is designed to provide a holistic education that develops students’ intellectual, social, and emotional skills. CAS, in particular, encourages students to engage in a variety of experiences that foster creativity, physical activity, and community service. By participating in CAS activities, students learn to balance their academic pursuits with personal interests and social responsibilities. Through experiential learning, they develop essential skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork. Furthermore, CAS enables students to explore global issues and to make a positive impact on their local and global communities.
The 2024 academic year has been a significant one for our Year 11 and 12 students as they embark on their CAS journeys. This program, designed to foster personal and interpersonal development, has provided countless opportunities for our students to learn through experience, challenge themselves, and make a positive impact on their communities.
A Legacy of Service
For our Year 12 students, the past eighteen months have been a whirlwind of activities, from community service projects to creative pursuits. They have honed their skills in collaboration, planning, and research, while also developing a strong sense of empathy and responsibility. By participating in initiatives like the “Big Brother Big Sister Program” and the “Navatu Secondary School – Bus Shelter & Renovation Project,” our seniors have not only made a difference in the lives of younger students but have also grown as individuals and inspired another learning community in Vanua Levu.
As they near the end of their CAS journey, we hope that our Year 12 students carry the lessons learned and the experiences gained into their future endeavors. May these memories inspire them to continue seeking out new challenges and making a positive impact on the world.
A New Chapter Begins
For our Year 11 students, the CAS journey has just begun. We encourage them to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead, to step outside of their comfort zones, and to explore their passions. Whether it’s volunteering at a local charity, pursuing a creative hobby, or organizing a community event, the possibilities are endless.
By actively engaging in CAS activities like the ‘Learn to Swim Program’ with our Reception students, ‘Pinktober Biggest Morning Tea’, and the ‘Movember’ – raising awareness on Men’s Health issues, our Year 11 students can develop essential skills such as time management, collaboration, problem-solving, and critical thinking. They can also foster a sense of global citizenship and a commitment to making a difference.
The Power of Self-Directed Learning
A hallmark of the CAS program is its emphasis on self-directed learning. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their experiences, set personal goals, and reflect on their progress. This approach empowers students to develop their unique talents and interests and to become independent learners.
As we move forward, we are excited to see what our Year 11 students will accomplish. With the support of our dedicated staff and the resources available to them, we have no doubt that they will make the most of their CAS journey.
We wish all our students the best as they continue to grow and develop through their CAS experiences. Vinaka!
