October 18, 2024This academic year (2024), we were thrilled to present the much-anticipated production of “I Am Moana,” a theatrical extravaganza that showcased the incredible talent of our students and celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific Islands.
“I Am Moana” is not just a play; it’s a journey. Adapted from the Disney film “Moana,” our production delved into the heartwarming tale of a young girl’s quest to find her true self and save her island. Through the thoughtful production values of our student directors (Caitlin, Caroline, & Manisha), the breathtaking performances by our wonderful cast of students, the stunning visuals designed by our students during our after-school activities program, and the soul-stirring music performed live by our very own student band, our students brought to life the story of Moana, a brave and adventurous Polynesian girl who sets sail across the ocean to restore the heart of Te Fiti and bring prosperity back to her homeland.
This production was also a celebration of Pacific Island culture. Our student production team worked tirelessly to ensure that every detail—from the traditional costumes to the authentic choreography—honoured the vibrant and diverse heritage of the Pacific Islands. This dedication brought authenticity to the performance and provided our students with a deeper understanding and appreciation of their cultural roots.
Not only was the production a celebration of local culture, but it was also a testament to our students’ incredible talent and dedication. From the lead actors who brought Moana (Skye & Joelinda), Maui (Mahir), and the other beloved characters to life, to the ensemble cast and crew who work behind the scenes, to the band and technical crew, each student played a crucial role in making this production a success. Their hard work, creativity, and passion were evident in every aspect, and we couldn’t be more proud of their accomplishments.
“I Am Moana” was more than just a school play showcasing remarkable talent; it was also a community event that brought together attendees beyond the ISS community. The production offered a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together and celebrate the talents of our students while enjoying a night of entertainment and cultural enrichment. The fact that we had two sold-out shows is a testament to the desire for, and interest in, top-tier cultural performances.
We would like to extend our gratitude to everyone who has supported the production of “I Am Moana.” From the teachers and staff who have dedicated countless hours to the parents who supported their children with the rehearsals and who volunteered their time and resources, and of course, to our incredible students whose talent and hard work brought this story to life—we couldn’t have done it without you.
