June 23, 2025Exploring Nature’s Beauty: Y7 Excursion at Marist Brothers Novitiate, Lomary
From April 30th to May 2nd, 2025, a total of 49 Year 7 students and 11 staff members embarked on an unforgettable journey into the heart of nature at Marist Brothers Novitiate, Lomary. The excursion aimed to blend adventure with learning, focusing on the theme of exploring the beauty and fragility of nature.
Day 1: Embracing Adventure
The journey began with eager anticipation as students departed school at 9:00 AM, bound for Lomary. By 10:30 AM, they arrived at the campsite, greeted by an orientation session that set the stage for the days ahead. After settling in, students enjoyed a leisurely lunch before venturing out for a short but scenic hike at 2:00 PM.
This was followed by a visit to a nearby beach village which enriched their experience with cultural exchange. Here, students immersed themselves in friendly rugby matches with local children, fostering new friendships against the backdrop of coastal beauty. Returning to camp by 5:00 PM, showers refreshed them for an evening filled with laughter and creativity during Skit activities, showcasing their talents and camaraderie.
Day 2: Thrills at Kula Eco Park
Day two dawned with excitement as students explored Kula Eco Park, starting with exhilarating zip-lining adventures and thrilling water slides. Amidst encounters with diverse wildlife, including memorable animal tours, students deepened their appreciation for nature’s diversity. The day culminated in a talent show where students dazzled with their skills, followed by a cozy bonfire under the stars, enhancing their bond with nature and each other.
Day 3: Connecting through Giving
The final day began with heartfelt generosity as students visited Lomary Primary & Secondary School, delivering donated stationery to eager young students. This meaningful exchange left a lasting impact as students connected beyond borders, learning names and sharing moments of joy with the local community. After a reflective breakfast, the campsite was packed up, and spirits were high as the journey back commenced at 10:30 AM.
En route, a stop at Grace Supermarket & Restaurant in Lami provided a chance to refuel before arriving back at school by 2:00 PM, brimming with stories of newfound friendships and unforgettable experiences.
Student Reflections
Reflecting on their adventure, students shared poignant moments. “Waking up to the beach view was breathtaking,” remarked one student, captivated by the morning vistas. Another highlighted the joy of giving, saying, “Visiting the school and meeting the kids was the best part. Knowing we made a difference meant a lot.”
Playing rugby with local children stood out for many. “It was fun and a chance to connect,” shared a student, encapsulating the spirit of cultural exchange that defined their journey.
The Year 7 Applied Learning Excursion Camp at Marist Brothers Novitiate, Lomary, not only immersed students in nature’s wonders but also instilled values of empathy, curiosity, and appreciation for the environment. As they return to their routines enriched and inspired, the memories forged amidst nature’s beauty will continue to resonate, shaping their journey ahead.
