December 6, 2024‘A Thrilling Adventure at Sabeto Christian Camp’
From the 16th to the 19th of July, Year 8 embarked on an exhilarating trip to the Sabeto Christian Camp in Nadi. The core focus of the camp was to cultivate a strong sense of trust and respect among the students, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
The adventure kicked off on day one with a journey to the picturesque Sabeto. After settling in, the afternoon unfolded with a High-Intensity Training (HITT) session. Students pushed their physical and mental limits while being surrounded by the stunning beauty of the surrounding mountains. The session was a perfect blend of fun, fitness, and camaraderie.
Day two brought an exhilarating dose of adrenaline with a thrilling zip-lining experience. Navigating seven different lines, students conquered their fears and celebrated their achievements together. The physical challenge was combined with a hike to the venue. After the zip-lining, the students had a refreshing dip in the cool, clear waters of the river. This invigorating activity provided a much-needed respite from the day’s adventures.
On the morning of Day 3, the students participated in a series of engaging team activities led by Mr.Jemesa and Mr.Ashniel to develop their critical thinking and collaborative skills such as hula hoop, float board, human knot, and bull rush
Seeing the students actively participating, supporting each other, and working towards a common goal was fantastic. These collaborative activities were a great way to build important life skills that would benefit them inside and outside the classroom.
Towards the afternoon, the students got a taste of Fijian culture by assisting with the preparation of the lovo feast. It was a great opportunity for teamwork and cultural immersion. After all their hard work, they had time to play sports and later, everyone enjoyed a delicious lovo dinner. The laughter and happy chatter told us just how much the students loved the food they helped prepare.
To wrap up this exciting day, they gathered around a crackling bonfire. The students roasted marshmallows, shared camp stories, and made memories that will last a lifetime.
They truly enjoyed this activity. As Skye, one of the students said: “I think a highlight of the camp was sitting around the campfire and telling stories with my friends and even people I haven’t interacted with much in the past. The scenery was beautiful, and we were able to burn marshmallows and stay up later than usual.”
As the camp drew to a close, day four was dedicated to packing up and preparing for the journey back to school. Students reflected on their experiences, sharing laughter, stories, and newfound friendships. The excursion was more than just a fun getaway; it was a transformative experience that equipped students with valuable life skills and strengthened their bonds with their peers.
As Josep, one of the students said: “I think for me some of the highlights was the bonding that I experienced during camp. I think it was a moment of growth for me to experience and develop myself and my connection with branching out of myself and into people, I learned respect discipline, and overall motivation to continue to put a smile on others’ faces, I liked looking at the stars and playing football with my friends.”
The Sabeto Christian Camp excursion was an incredible opportunity for Year 8 students to step outside of their comfort zones, build confidence, and develop a deeper appreciation for teamwork and cooperation. The memories made and the lessons learned will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on their personal growth and development.
