May 5, 2025Year 10’s Memorable Applied Learning Excursion to Nadi Retreat Centre
In Week 7 of this Term 1, our Year 10 students embarked on their Applied Learning Excursion to the picturesque Nadi Retreat Centre. Nestled in the serene farmlands of Tunalia, Nadi, this unique setting provided a tranquil retreat, occasionally enhanced by the distant hum of planes overhead, which only added to the camp’s excitement.
At the beginning of the year, we prepared our students for the camp experience by sharing detailed plans and expectations. Each student received a camp consent form that required parental permission. Once these were submitted, they were provided with a comprehensive camp booklet. This booklet included essential details about the staff accompanying them, the camp schedule, behavior expectations, and a checklist of items to bring along.
On March 3rd at 9 am, the excitement was palpable as our students eagerly boarded two buses loaded with their luggage, ready for what would be an unforgettable experience. The journey began with a delightful stop at the Baravi Handicraft and Café, where students enjoyed a delicious lunch while soaking in the local scenery before continuing their way to the Retreat Centre.
Upon arrival late in the afternoon, students were briefed on the schedule and assigned their rooms. After settling in, they had some time to relax before preparing for dinner. That evening, Ms. Tanya kickstarted the camp with the first session of their Personal Project, setting the tone for a productive weekend ahead.
The following day began with a hearty breakfast, followed by engaging interactive sessions on the Personal Project, led by both Ms. Katy and Ms. Tanya. These sessions sparked insightful discussions, enriching the students’ learning experiences and strengthening their connections with one another. After a fulfilling lunch and dinner, the Year 10 students dove into a variety of team-building activities with Mr. Jonathan and Ms Noorinah. These activities not only promoted teamwork but also encouraged personal growth and bonding among the students.
Throughout their time at the Nadi Retreat Centre, our Year 10 students learned the importance of clear communication, enhancing their skills as many activities required them to express their thoughts and listen actively to their peers. Team-building games and the evening talent show highlighted the value of collaboration, all while ensuring that students were having fun! The engaging nature of the activities kept everyone excited and eager to participate, which is crucial for effective learning experiences.
This excursion was much more than just an opportunity for academic learning; it was a chance for our students to bond, gain new experiences, and create lasting memories. We are incredibly proud of our Year 10 students for their enthusiasm and positive participation throughout this rewarding adventure!
